L2025-02 Aviation accident at Helsinki-Vantaa airport

Pursuant to the second subsection of section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011), the Safety Investigation Authority Finland initiates an investigation into an aviation accident that occurred on August 16, 2025 on the apron of Helsinki-Vantaa airport, when a parked ATR 72-500 airplane moved inadvertently forward after engine start and impacted a ground power unit. The investigation will focus on the role of human factors and on operating procedures.

The appointed team leader is subject matter expert Kimmo Lius. The team members are subject matter experts Petri Koistinen and Jouko Lankinen, and special investigator Vaishnave Mohanathas. The investigator-in-charge is Chief Air Safety Investigator Janne Kotiranta.
