Y2021-01 Elevator accident in the Kauniala hospital on 11 May 2021

The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland has decided to initiate an investigation under section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into the elevator accident that occurred in the Kauniala Hospital on 11 May 2021.

In the accident, a patient in a wheelchair died after getting caught between the elevator car and the elevator shaft. The nurse who had been transporting the patient was also injured in the accident.

Taneli Rasmus, M.Sc. (Tech.), is appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team and Jari Kotimäki, Master of Laws with court training, and Sari Yli-Kauhaluoma, D.Sc. (Econ.), as well as Safety Investigator Lasse Laatta are appointed as members. Chief Safety Investigator Kai Valonen will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge
