R2021-04 Derailment of a train transferring a metro in Oulunkylä on 2 December 2021
The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland has decided to initiate an investigation under section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into the derailment of a train transferring a metro in Oulunkylä on 2 December 2021.
In the accident, the second set of wheels of the bogie of the first carriage of the metro in the VR Group train transferring rolling stock was derailed when the train was on its way from the Ilmala depot to Vuosaari. Before the derailment, the train broke in two between the locomotive and the metro. The accident did not result in personal injuries, but the first carriage of the metro was badly damaged and the locomotive of the train, the second carriage of the metro and the measurement carriage in the train were slightly damaged.
Safety Investigator Mikko Tikkanen is appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team, and Safety Investigator Hannu Hänninen and Eero Jaakola, Master of Science (Technology), are appointed as members. Chief Rail Safety Investigator Lasse Laatta will be the Investigator-in-Charge.
