L2018-A3 Aviation accident at Tallinn airport 28 February 2018

Ohutusjuurdluse Keskus, (the Estonian Safety Investigation Bureau), is investigating an aviation accident that occurred at Tallinn Airport on 28 February 2018. The airliner ES-SAN, an Airbus A320-200 operated by the company, Smartlynx Estonia, was involved in the accident.

On 16 November 2018, the Estonian Safety Investigation Bureau requested the assistance of the Safety Investigation Authority, Finland, in the investigation of the accident. The Estonian Safety Investigation Bureau has requested that the Safety Investigation Authority, Finland, appoint an authorised representative for the operational team assembled by the Estonian bureau and experts from its French equivalent.

Regulation (EU) No 996/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 October 2010 on the investigation and prevention of accidents and incidents in civil aviation provides that a member state's safety investigation authority can request help from the safety investigation authorities of other member states.

In response to the Estonian Safety Investigation Bureau's request for assistance, the Safety Investigation Authority, Finland has appointed an authorised representative to assist in the investigation made by the Estonian authority. Chief Air Safety Investigator Ismo Aaltonen and Expert Heikki Kasurinen have been appointed as authorised representatives.
