P2017-01 Stabbing that led to the death of two people and the injury of eight people in Turku on 18 August 2017
Based on a proposal by the Ministry of Justice in accordance with section 32 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2012), on 19 October 2017 the Finnish Government decided to begin the investigation of an exceptional event involving a knife attack which occurred in Turku on 18 August 2017, and to establish an investigation team to investigate the incident.
The investigation will examine the course of events, its causes and consequences, and rescue actions, as well as any actions taken by the authorities. In addition, factors related to the perpetrator of the event may be ascertained to the extent necessary to gathering information required to prevent the occurrence of similar events (sections 5 and 33 of the Act).
