L2019-04 Collission hazard between a Hawk wing of the air force and a general aviation aircraft in Jyväskylä on 5 April 2019

The Safety Investigation Authority of Finland has decided to initiate an investigation under Section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into a serious incident that occurred on 05/04/2019. The collision hazard between a Hawk wing of the Finnish Air Force and a general aviation aircraft occurred in the vicinity of the Jyväskylä airport. The Hawk wing flew into an airfield traffic pattern in order to split the wing above the runway. At the same time, there was a general aviation aircraft in an airfield traffic pattern that the Hawk wing had to evade by performing a tight manoeuvre.

Air traffic controller (ret.) Timo Heikkilä has been appointed as the Head of the investigation team and M.A. Ilona Hatakka, air traffic controller (ret.) Tapani Simola and D.Sc. (Econ.) Riku Oksman have been appointed as members. Chief Safety Investigator Ismo Aaltonen will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge.
